BATTLE OF THE BIRDS

BATTLE OF THE BIRDS

Boston, MA- On Saturday, October 27th, the Falcons (14-10) will head to Green Mountain College to match up against the Eagles (7-10) in the NIAC Championship. The Falcons  recorded their best overall record this season (14-10) and (2-0) in conference.

Falcons head coach, William Lau, looks to cap off his first season with the program's first ever championship. The Falcons team consists of only one senior, four sophomores and three freshmen. Over the course of the 2018 season the team has recorded a total of over 635 kills. This power packed team currently ranks 1st in the NAIA in both Services Aces per Game and Total Service Aces. The Fisher Falcons young squad is looking towards this Championship as a way to lay another brick in the foundation of this successful program. "The game versus Green Mountain should be a very interesting game. Last time we faced them we saw high level of volleyball from both sides. A lot of effort was given from both teams and I believe it's going to be a great battle", head coach William Lau.

Earlier this season, the Falcons swept the Eagles 3-0 and closed out the Eagles before allowing them to reach 20 points. Looking towards their previous victory to guide them, the Falcons, led by senior Natie Manalo (San Francisco, CA), who currently ranks number 2nd in service aces per game and 3rd in Services Aces in the NAIA, are looking to claim their second championship in only their second season of competition. Looking to provide some offensive pressure, the Falcons hope to see Chyna Carter (Avondale, AZ) add to her offensive rampage of over 212 kills. Next to Carter in the starting service rotation is Lia Aime (Las Piedras, PR) and Yeryvel Catala (Gurabo, PR), or also known as the 4 to 5 connection. Aime leads the Falcons with 295 assists, and with no surprise, partner in crime Catala recorded the second most kills for the Falcons with 189. Aiding on the defensive end the Falcons will look to Maura Lammers (Augusta, GA) and Periya Yath (Amherst, MA). Lammers recorded the second most blocks and digs throughout the season with 11 blocks and 174 digs. Yath, the quick force on the court, has recorded 153 digs and 1 block to be a defensive presence to avoid. Fisher also has a strong presence coming off the bench in Hermoine Marcellus, who has 31 digs and a .784 serving percentage, whose vital contributions to the team both on and off the court have helped this team going strong

The Falcons will compete in a tri-match on Saturday, October 27th with a 2pm game against Paul Smith's College before their 4pm showdown with Green Mountain College for the NIAC Championship.
