Boston, MA- On a warm Wednesday morning, far from the dreary, streets of an autumn in Boston, Scott Dulin, Head Fisher Falcons Baseball Coach and Omar Rodriguez, Regional Admissions Representative presented to a packed conference room at the Condado Pal Inn, located in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The breakfast – a show of appreciation to the fellow school counselors and advisors that help students find their way to higher education success - included discussions of Fisher's history, the College's academic and athletic advantages, and answering general questions about Fisher's admissions criteria.
"Boston is not just an amazing city, it is our campus!" exclaimed Coach Dulin. "With our close-knit community and nearby internships, students enjoy small-school support and big-city opportunities."
A student's experience at Fisher is more than just education, it is about being a part of a growing and inclusive community. That community includes expanding athletics programs, including many student-athletes from Puerto Rico. Over 37% of the Baseball team call the island home, and the College continues to deeply connect with the community through other athletic teams including Softball, Men's and Women's Basketball, Men's and Women's Soccer, Cross-Country and Women's Volleyball. And the athletes reciprocate that commitment, with a retention rate of over 81%. Their hard work and determination on and off the field is an inspiration.
"With so many students from Puerto Rico calling Fisher College home, I feel so proud and honored to be part of their success," said Rodriguez.
Fisher's vision of an inclusive student body showed with their fellow students needed it most. In 2017, after Hurricane Maria ravaged the island, Fisher students banded together, leading the charge in a collection drive. "It was amazing …seeing the College come together in support of the community members, "said Tom Englehardt '09, Director of Admissions. "Two years later and you still see students wearing the Pitch in for Puerto Rico shirts."
As the appreciation breakfast wrapped up a general consensus filled the air that being a part of the Fisher community is more than just an education, it's preparation for a future of success in and out of the classroom.
