Falcons drop 1st game of series to Texas- Brownsville, 9-4

The Fisher Falcons remain winless on the season with a 9-4 loss against the University of Texas- Brownsville, Saturday night at Scorpion Field in Brownsville, Texas.

Scorpions' starter Marcos De Leon went 7 strong innings, giving up only five hits while recording 11 strikeouts.  Falcons' freshman Carlos Ditren went 3 innings, giving up one run on three hits and took the loss. Ditren collected six strikeouts but also surrendered six walks on the night.

Christopher Cantu, an Alamo, Texas native, made his return to southern Texas by pitching 3 and 2/3 innings.  Cantu relinquished 5 runs on six hits while striking out six.

UTB got on the board first with a run in the bottom of the first but neither team could produce offense early on in the game. The game remained 1-0 for 5 innings before Brownsville broke it open.  The host scored 3 runs in the sixth, 3 in the seventh, and 2 in the eighth to take control of the game. 

The Falcons managed four runs late off the Scorpions bullpen but it wasn't enough.  With the loss the Falcons fall to 0-5 on the season.

Offensively, Fisher was led by Victor Lebron's 3 for 5 performance. Senior Gary Lunetta had 2 hits as well.

Fisher returns to action Sunday evening at 6pm for game 2 of the series with Texas- Brownsville.
