Reed carries Falcons to doubleheader sweep

In the second game of Saturday's doubleheader junior Casey Reed picked up his first win of the season and improved Fisher to 3-15 on the year.  The second game was more pitcher friendly as both teams combined for only 7 runs and 12 hits.

Fisher took down the Fitchburg State Falcons, 5-2 after winning game one of the doubleheader, 10-5.

FSU got their first run off Reed in the top of the first when Jeff Boice singled to lead off the game and later came around to score on a passed ball by catcher Brett Remon.  However, Reed was able to settle down after back to back hits to record three straight outs.

Fisher responded immediately in the bottom of the first. With two outs in the inning, Victor Lebron doubled to left and eventually scored on a Denon Rushing RBI single.

It was another two out hit that increased the Falcons' lead in the bottom of the third inning.  Senior Gary Lunetta drove a 2-1 fastball to right field that scored Brett Remon and Dominic Zaher. The Falcons third run proved to be the game winner as Casey Reed took over from there.

Fitchburg State showed signs of life in the fourth inning after Frank Yavorosky led off the inning with a single to left.  A David Mason sacrifice bunt advanced Yavorosky to second.  With one out in the inning, Chris Rivera singled to left but leftfielder Michael Flynn game up with a momentum changing throw to gun down Frank Yavorosky as he attempted to score on the play. However, Fitchburg would get their run as Rivera scored on a Sean Trombley single.

Once again Fisher responded. A leadoff walk to Jose Paulino and an infield single from Gary Lunetta helped the Falcons load the bases. Dominic Zaher scored on a Trombley pass ball to give Fisher their fourth run of the night. Zaher reached on a fielder's choice earlier in the inning.

The Falcons added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth when Eridani Dume singled to left, stole second, and scored on yet another Gary Lunetta RBI single.

Reed surrendered a walk to start the seventh but immediately got Rivera to ground into a fielder's choice.  Fisher turned its first double play of the game on the last play as Trombley grounded into the 6-4-3 double play to end the ball game.

Reed went all 7 innings and allowed just 2 runs (1 earned) on 6 hits. With the win, the Falcons improve to 3-15 on the season. Fisher will return to action tomorrow when they host the University of Maine- Farmington for a 12pm doubleheader.
