Falcons fall to UHV, 6-4, in controversial finish

VICTORIA, TX - The rally fell just short as the Fisher Falcons left the tying run at the plate as they fell to the University of Houston-Victoria, 6-4, Friday afternoon in A.I.I conference play.

The Falcons jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top 1st when Eridani Dume led off the came with a single to left.  Dume advanced to second shortly afteroon when Anthony Peguero had a single to left of his own.  A Victor Lebron chopper the 3rd would allow both runners to move up 90 feet and Dume later scored on a Davidson Peguero RBI groundout to 1st.

The Houston-Victoria Jaguars quickly to a lead of their own by scoring 2 runs on 2 hits and an error in the bottom of the 1st.  Fisher's Jefry Castro was able to leave the bases loaded to prevent any further damage.

The offensive product continued when freshman Yuliano Rodriguez led off the inning with a single.  Junior Joshua Boyd, a transfer from Norfolk State, took a inside fastball and deposited in well over the fence in left center to give the Falcons a 3-2.  The home run was Boyd's second to year.

After a scored 3rd inning, the Jaguars managed to tie the game at 3-3 in the bottom of the forth when Josh Ledesma started the inning with a double to left center.  After an error by the second baseman that allowed Ledesma to advance to 3rd, a Dylan Blaha single to right leveled the score.

The hosts took the lead for good in the bottom of the 7th when Dylan led of with an infield single. A ground out and wild pitch eventually had Blaha standing on 3rd when Chad Kruse singled past a diving Anthony Peguero to break the deadlock. The single would prove the end for Jefry Castro as he was relieved by Mosies Melo-Reyes after going 6 1/3.  Castro surrounded 6 hits, 5 runs (3 earned) and 1 walk in his 6th appearance of the year.  The junior fanned 6.

UHV added two more insurance runs off of Melo-Reyes who lasted on 1/3 of an inning. He departed the game allowing 2 hits and 1 run after facing just 3 batters.

The Falcons attempted comeback in the 8th inning when Victor Lebron led off with a walk. Davidson Peguero then singled to right before Dominic Zaher flew out to centerfield.  Yuliano Rodriguez's RBi single scored Lebron who advanced to 3rd on the Zaher flyball.  Josh Boyd then walked to load the bases but was following a Brett Remon pinch hit strikeout.  Threating with the bases loaded and two out, Jose Paulino could only pop out to short to end the inning.

Anthony Peguero led off the ninth with one of his game high 3 hits.  He was left stranded however after Lebron popped out to 2nd and Davidson Peguero was called on on a questionable check swing call.

Fisher fell to 8-9 on the year while Houston-Victoria improved to 7-16.  The two teams square off again tomorrow in a doubleheader beginning at 5PM.
