Falcons fall to Briarcliffe in walk off fashion

Brandon Fischer took a 1-0 fast ball deep to left field to give Briarcliffe College at 4-3 walk off victory against the Falcons Sunday afternoon.  With the win Briarcliffe improves to 6-7 on the year while Fisher drops to 10-12.

Briarcliffe opened the scoring in the bottom of the 3rd inning when David Farina led off with a single and later stole second.   Two batters later, Anthony Puma singled up the middle to plate to go ahead runner.

The Falcons answered back with two runs of their own in the top of the 4th. Eridani Dume (Boston, MA) singled to start the inning then stole 2nd to get into scoring position. After an Anthony Peguero (Boston, MA) fly out, Victor Lebron (Union City, NJ) walked.  Fisher got their first run when Briarcliffe's cather threw the ball into left field when Dume and Lebron stole 3rd and 2nd respectively.

Fisher added a 3rd run in the 5th inning when Dominic Zaher reached on a hit by pitch with one out in the inning.  Zaher would steal 2nd to get into scoring position and came around to score on a Jose Paulino (Lawrence, MA) RBI single to center.

Briarcliffe started their comeback in the bottom of the 6th when Fischer started with a double down the left field line. After advancing the 3rd on a pass ball, Fischer scored on a RBI groundout by Anthony Mele. Briarcliffe threaten to score more in the inning by Izzy Velez (Avon, MA), who came on in relief of starter Jefry Castro (Union City, NJ) managed to get Nick Marzano to fly out to center,  leaving two runners on base.

After a scoreless top of the 7th inning, sophomore Christopher Cantu (Alamo, TX) came on to try and close out the win for the Falcons.   David Farina singled before Joseph Fiorino popped out to 2nd. Farina moved into scoring position after stealing 2nd but where he was didn't matter as Fischer belted his 1st home run of the year to take the first game of the doubleheader for the hosts.

Game four of the four game series begins at 2:30pm.  Fisher will look to close out the series victory after leading 2 games to 1.
