Boyd, Falcons Power Past Beavers to Sweep Doubleheader

Lynn, MA --- Joshua Boyd took a 2-1 fastball to deep left field in the bottom of the sixth inning the break a 4-4 tie and give the Fisher College Falcons a 6-4 victory over Maine-Farmington. Boyd's fourth home run of the year capped off a four run inning that saw the Falcons erase of four run deficit.

UMF got off to a fast start by scoring two runs in the top of the 1st. Brett Wallingford reached on an error by shortshop Jose Paulino. He came around to score the very next hitter when Brian Jenkins singled to right field. Joshua Boyd's attempt to throw out Wallingford at third base was to high which allowed both runners to advance, giving UMF a 1-0 lead. Jenkins would score two batters later when Matt Woodbury singled up the middle.

The Beavers doubled their lead in the top of the 3rd when Wallingford singled to right. He would move into scoring position when Jenkins reached on an error. Colin Mello then singled to right center, scoring Wallingford. After advancing to 3rd, UMF's Jenkin added their fourth run scoring on the back end of a Woodbury double play.

It took until the 5th inning for the Falcons to get on the board when Joshua Boyd started with an infield single. An error by UMF's 3rd baseman allowed runners on 2nd and 3rd for the Falcons. Junior Brett Remon drove in Fisher's first run with an RBI groundout to short before Daurys Batista's pinch hit ground out plated Fisher's second run of the inning.

UMF had two players picked off in the top of the 6th to help Fisher escape the inning without any damage. With the momentum on their side, senior Eridani Dume led off the 6th with a double to deep left field. Two pitches later Anthony Peguero singled to right, scoring Dume, then advanced to 2nd on an error by the right fielder.

Yuliano Rodriguez was hit by a pitch to give the Falcons runners on 1st and 2nd before a wild pitch put both runners in scoring position. The Falcons tied the game when Davidson Peguero's sacrifice fly to left was deep enough to score Anthony Peguero.

With the game tied, Boyd sent the Fisher bench into a frenzy by sending the fastball well over the left field fence. The comeback allowed senior Casey Reed to earn his 3rd win of the season. The right-hander went all seven innings, allowing four runs (two earned) on five hits and one walk. The senior struck out eight of the 30 batters faced.

Joe Sullivan took the loss for UMF after going six innings. The sophomore gave up six runs (four earned) on seven hits. Sullivan collected just one strikeout.

The two teams close out their three game series with a match up Easter morning at Fraser Field. The Falcons will look to win their eighth game in a row with a 10AM first pitch.
