Falcons Drop Tournament Opener to Houston-Victoria

Victoria, TX – The Fisher Falcons dropped the first round of the A.I.I Baseball Championship against host school University of Houston-Victoria by a score of 4-1.  The UHV Jaguars advance to play #1 seed Cal State San Marcos while the Falcons fall to the loser's bracket where they will play either Ashford University or LSU-Alexandria in an elimination game Thursday morning at 11:00AM.

UHV Junior Cory Carter (Houston, TX) went 8 innings allowing just one earned run to improve his record to 5-4 on the year. Carter struck out 11 Falcons while allowing six hits and 3 walks.

Senior Christopher O'Hare (Lynnfield, MA) took the loss for the Falcons.  O'Hare, who was recently named the A.I.I Pitcher of the Year entered in the game with a 9-0 record, suffered his 1st loss in a Falcon uniform.

The lefty went 7 and 2/3 innings and allowed nine hits and 4 runs (all earned). O'Hare managed 12 strike outs but gave up 3 walks in the outing. 

The Jaguars of Houston-Victoria opened the scoring in the top of the second inning when Ryan Suescum (Houston, TX) led off with a single to left field. Suescum crossed the plate two batters late when Robert Gleinser (Victoria, TX) doubled down the right field line. Gleinser would score UHV's second run when catcher Matthew Herrera (Katy, TX) singled to right center.

The game remained scoreless for the next five innings before UHV managed to double their lead with 2 runs in the top of the 8th.  Josh Ledesma (Spring, TX) had a one-out single and then advanced to 2nd on a Suescum ground out. Corti Wilson's (Baytown, TX) infield single and a Gleinser walk would load the bases for the Jaguars before Matthew Herrera forced a walk to give UHV the 3-0. After Moises Melo-Reyes (Methuen, MA) relieved starter O'Hare, UHV's Stephen Shorkley's (Pearland, TX) had pinch-hit single to extend the Jaguars lead.

The Falcons managed to score their only run of the game in the bottom of 8thEridani Dume (Boston, MA) reached on a fielder's choice and subsequently stole 2nd. Victor Lebron (Union City, NJ) plated Dume with a two-out single to left field.

Fisher managed nothing in the 9th as Nick Huff (Groveton, TX) pitched a perfect ninth to earn his 3rd save of the year.

The victory improved UHV to 20-21 in the year while the Fisher Falcons fall to 33-17.
