Falcons Soar to Doubleheader Sweep of UMaine-Farmington

Boston, MA – The Fisher College Falcons opened up their northern schedule with a non-conference sweep of the University of Maine – Farmington fresh off their most successful southern trip in program history.  The Falcons scored a combined 25 runs in route to their 6th consecutive victory.  

In game 1 Victor Mendez (Lawrence, MA) led the Falcons with 5 strong innings on the mound.  The righty allowed four runs on three hits.  Mendez recorded seven strikeouts while surrounding just two walks.

Offensively for the Falcons senior Yhonathan Santelises (Lynn, MA) went 3-3 with 1 RBI and 3 runs scored.  Sander Vargas (Lawrence, MA), Yuliano Rodriguez (Toa Alto, PR), Ivan Cabranes (Toa Alto, PR) and Nelson Lopez (Brooklyn, NY) each added 2 hits for the Falcons.

In game 2 the Falcons used an eight run 2nd inning to ease to victory in the night cap.  John Tangherlini (Lincoln, RI) picked up right where classmate Mendez left off, going five innings allowing three runs (two earned) on four hits. Tangherlini had a season high 10 strikeouts while limiting Maine-Farmington to just three walks.

The Fisher bats continued to impress in game two, led by Vargas' 2-4 3 RBI and 2 runs scored effort. Victor Lebron (Union City, NJ) went 2-2 for 2 runs scored while Rodriguez and Cabranes matched their game 1 efforts with another two hits apiece.

Fisher and Maine-Farmington finish their four game series tomorrow evening at Maplewood Park in Malden, MA with a 3:30pm scheduled doubleheader.
