Zaher Slams Falcons Past Rivier

LYNN, MA -- The Fisher Falcons continued their winning ways with a 11-2 win over the Rivier Raiders at Fraser Field on Wednesday night. It is the second victory in as many nights versus the Raiders, as they defeated Rivier 4-1 on Tuesday night at Maplewood Park in Malden, MA.

The game remained scoreless for the first four and a half innings until sophomore infielder Nelson Lopez (Brooklyn, NY) led off the bottom of the fifth with a single to left. After stealing 2nd and advancing to 3rd on a passed ball, Lopez crossed the plate for the Falcons first run when Adam Lucey (Malden, MA) singled up the middle.

The Raiders responded right away in the top of the 6th when Nick Gagnon (Springfield, MA) got the inning started with an infield single. After a sacrifice bunt that advanced Gagnon to 2nd, Rivier tied up the game at 1-1 when a Fisher throwing error allowed Gagnon to score. A failed suicide squeeze saw the Falcons escape the inning with limited damage.

The Falcons took the lead for good when Edwin Herrera (Union City, NJ), who was pinch running for Ramcy Lora (Lawerence, MA), was able to score when Lopez reached on an error by the pitcher. An Adam Lucey RBI single made it 3-1 before Dominic Zaher (Chelmsford, MA) blasted a grand slam to left field to extend the lead to 7-1.

The Raiders were able to get a run back in the top of the 7th, but it was all Falcons from there on out, as the hosts cruised to their 14th consecutive victory.

Junior Ismael Velez (Avon, MA) picked up the win for the Falcons while Lucas Palma (Bristol, CT) suffered the loss for Rivier.

The Falcons are back in action Thursday afternoon when they travel to Worcester State University for a 3:00 PM first pitch. Tomorrow's contest marks the first of three meetings between the Falcons and Lancers during the 2014 season.

The Raiders will next take the field Thursday night as they host the Plymouth State University.
