Falcons earn first victory of 2015

Victoria, Texas – The Fisher Falcons earned their first victory of the 2015 season with a 13-1 win over the University of Houston – Victoria Jaguars Friday afternoon at Bulldog Stadium in Yoakim, TX.  The Falcons improve to 1-7 on the year while UHV drops to 10-11.

Fisher opened up the scoring with a two run 2nd inning.  Senior Jordan Berry led off with a double to left-center field followed by a RBI double from catcher Harold NoguerasAdam Lucey, who was pinch running for Nogueras, scored the Falcons 2nd run on an infield single by junior Nelson Lopez.

Fisher added four more runs in the top half of the 6th, highlighted by back-to-back home runs by Nogueras and Jessue Alvarado. Nogueras went 2-for-3 on the day with a run scored and four RBIs.

Senior Victor Mendez kept the Jaguar bats quiet all day, allowing just one run in six innings. The right-hander surrendered four hits and three walks while striking out five.

Fisher put the game completely out of hand with a seven run 8th inning. Elvis Perez plated Jose Fortuna on a RBI groundout to open the scoring. Sander Vargas then singled to shallow center scoring Lucey and Alvarado. Two more runs scored on a UHV error before Fortuna capped off the inning with a two run single to center.

The Falcons and Jaguars return to action with games 2 and 3 of their four game series tomorrow afternoon in Yoakim. The doubleheader is scheduled for a 1:00PM CT start time.
