Baseball Falls to CSJ 7-1

Lynn, Mass. – Fisher College dropped a non-conference game against USCAA member College of St. Joseph's (CSJ) of Vermont Friday evening by a score of 7-1. Fisher moves to 11-11 on the season as CSJ picks up a victory.

Amauris Santana (New York, N.Y.) got the start and took the loss for the Falcons on the mound. In the bottom of the first inning, the Falcons had runners on first and third, but were unable to push one of the runners across the plate. Pitchers dueled it out for the next few innings, not allowing a run for either team.

Fisher threatened with a runner in scoring position with two outs, but the next batter could not hit him home. Nester Velasquez got things going for CSJ in the top of the sixth inning when he hit a single to left center. Velasquez scored on a double by Jayson Osborne, who later scored on a suicide squeeze by Justin Lemanski. Jordan Matos tripled to score Lemanski, giving CSJ a 3-0 lead over the Falcons.

Dominic Zaher (Chelmsford, Mass.) led the bottom of the sixth with a homer to right field to cut the Fighting Saints' lead to 3-1. Devin Perry (Newton, Mass.) singled after the homerun and moved to second on a single by Yuliano Rodriguez (Toa Alto, P.R.).  Both runners were stranded on the base path.

CSJ added four runs in the top of the ninth to secure their lead over the Falcons, now leading 7-1.  Sander Vargas (Lawrence, Mass.) started a rally in the bottom of the ninth, hitting a single to right field with two outs. On the next play, Vargas was called out at second on interference, ending the game with a Falcon defeat of 7-1.

Zaher was the powerhouse hitter for Fisher going 2-4 with a homerun and a double. Four other Falcons had a hit a piece, totaling six Falcon hits. Santana held CSJ to three hits while striking out six in his five and one-third innings on the mound.

Fisher takes on CSJ Saturday, April 11, starting at 3:00 p.m. for a doubleheader at Fraser Field in Lynn, Mass. After taking on CSJ in a doubleheader, the team travels to New York to take on Mt. Saint Vincent College Sunday.
