Falcons sweep CSJ to win weekend series

Boston – Senior Chris Cantu collected a pair of saves as the Fisher Falcons earned a doubleheader sweep against the College of St. Joseph's Fighting Saints Saturday evening at Fraser Field in Lynn, Mass. Both games ended with a 4-2 score, as the Falcons improve to 13-11 on the season.

Sophomore Brendon Mannion nearly earned his first complete game victory for the Falcons, going six and 2/3 innings. The right-hander allowed two runs on nine hits and two walks but managed to record fix strikeouts.

Cantu struck out the only batter he faced to record his third save of the season.

Offensively, the Flacons were paced by seniors Dominic Zaher and Jessue Alavarado. Zaher had a game-high two runs batted in on a 1-for-3 day while Alvarado went 2-for-2 with two runs scored and one run batted in.

Shawn Carlson got the start and victory in game two as the senior lasted five complete innings, fanning seven and allowing just two hits. Freshman Matthew Trotta allowed two runs on two walks before senior McNary finished the sixth inning, allowing just one hit. Cantu allowed a hit in the seventh but retired the rest to earn his fourth save.

Jose Fortuna had a two RB 3-for-3 day nightcap to lead the Falcons' offensive. Jordan Berry drove in the other Falcons run during a 1-for-3 showing.

The Falcons return to action Sunday morning when they travel to Mount St. Vincent College for an 11:00 a.m. doubleheader.
