Vargas, Falcons complete sweep of Mount St. Vincent

Boston, MA – The Falcons scored a combined 24 runs on the day to earn a pair of victories against the College of Mount St. Vincent Sunday afternoon in West Harrison, New York. Fisher took game one, 12-2, before winning the nightcap, 12-6.

Senior Victor Mendez went five innings, allowing one run on four hits and three walks to earn the victory for Fisher. The right-hander matched a season high with 10 strikeouts. Senior Jefry Castro pitched two innings in relief, allowing one run on two hits. The righty managed three strikeouts.

Offensively in game one the Falcons were paced by a 3-for-3 outing by Sander Vargas. The third baseman also drove in three runs. Cody Mercier, Devin Perry, Jordan Berry and Yuliano Rodriguez each notched two hits for the visitors in the rout.

The hitting continued in game two, highlighted by Elvis Perez's first inning inside-the-park home run. Perez finishes the day 1-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI. Dominic Zaher, Adam Lucey, Vargas and Rodriguez each had multiple hits in the nightcap.

Junior Joe Saia earned the win on the mound for the Falcons, allowing six runs over 5 and 2/3 innings. The lefty scattered nine hits and four walks over the course of his outing. Saia managed seven strikeouts. Brian DeJesus pitched a scoreless inning and 1/3 in relief.

The Falcons return to action Monday night when they host Framingham State University at 7:00 p.m.
