Carlson, Falcons overpower Newbury

Boston, MA -- Senior Shawn Carlson recorded a career high 12 strikeouts en route to a 12-2 non-conference victory of the Newbury College Nighthawks at Campenelli Stadium on Thursday night.

Carlson dominated the Newbury batters during his six inning outing, allowing just two hits to the hosts. It was Carlson's fourth win of the season and improved the Falcons to 19-12 overall.

Fisher opened the scoring in the top of the 3rd innings when Dylan Moss laced a RBI double to deep center field that plated Dominic Zaher. Zaher had reached on a one-out hit by pitch. Fisher added two more runs in the inning when Sander Vargas doubled to right center. Vargas drove in Moss and Jordan Berry, who reached on a throwing error by Newbury's third basemen.

Fisher added a fourth run in the fourth innings on a Moss sacrifice fly to centerfield. Moss again drove in Zaher, who had walked and stole second prior to advancing to 3rd on a passed ball.

Newbury cut the deficit in half in the bottom of the 7th inning, scoring two runs off of Fisher's Jose Maldonado. However, the Falcons put the game away in the top of the 9th with 8 runs on 7 hits.

Cody Mercier drove in the innings first runs, tripling to left center, scoring Adam Lucey and Nelson Lopez. Yuliano Rodriguez following with a double down the left field line, scoring Mercier. Vargas plated Rodriguez with a double of his own before scoring on Jose Fortuna's fielder's choice.

Lopez drove in Fisher's sixth run of the innings after being hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Mercier then collected his second hit of the innings with a single to right field, scoring Harold Nogueras.

Brian DeJesus pitched a perfect 9th for Fisher who won their 4th consecutive game. The Falcons return to action Saturday afternoon when they host the University of Maine – Presque Isle in a 3:00 p.m. doubleheader.
