Fisher Blanks Rivier 5-0

Fisher Blanks Rivier 5-0

(Lynn, Mass.) The Rivier University Baseball team dropped their fourth straight contest this evening in a 5-0 defeat to Fisher College in a non-association game held at Fraser Field. The loss sends the Raiders to 6-18 overall while Fisher improves to 12-21 on the year.

The Falcons were able to get to Rivier starter, senior Nicholas Gagnon (Providence, R.I.) in his final inning of work as they tacked on two runs. The crafty right-hander allowed just three hits and struck out one in his first start on the hill this season. Freshman Kyle Flanagan (Bradford, Mass.) came on in relief and tossed four scoreless innings – striking out four and surrendering two hits. Senior Jesse Turcotte (Tyngsboro, Mass.) gave up a three run double in the eight and classmate Taylor Black (West Springfield, Mass.) made his debut on the hill with a scoreless ninth.

Offensively, Rivier was led by senior Jeremy Ball (Swanzey, N.H.) who had two of the team's six hits. Senior David Feole (Scituate, R.I.) and freshman Brandon Thibault (Methuen, Mass.) each went 1-for-2 in the loss.

Fisher senior starter Grayson Weber (Las Vegas, Nev.) was lights out all night as he spun eight innings of shutout baseball. The right-hander struck out twelve while surrendering five hits. Sophomore Matthew Trotta (Westford, Mass.) threw the final frame allowing just one hit.

Senior Xavier Feliz (Boston, Mass.) produced the game's biggest hit – a bases clearing double down the right field line in the eighth for the Falcons. Classmate Nelson Lopez (Freehold, N.Y.) went 2-for-4 as did junior Sam Schroeder (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.).

Rivier will return to Great Northeast Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon when they travel to East Boston Stadium for 12pm twin-bill with Suffolk University. Fisher, meanwhile, will host Vaughn College in a four game set beginning at 3pm on Saturday afternoon.
