Big Bats help Falcons Soar over AMCats

Northborough, Mass. – On Monday February 19, after the weekend snowstorm postponed the originally scheduled game time, the Falcons' baseball team went head-to-head for the second time in a six days against the AMCats of Anna Maria College.  This time, Fisher College took a decisive 14-4 victory to put the team back at .500 with a 4-4 record on the season.

Zach Leblanc started the game for the Falcons where his first two batters grounded out to third base and fanning his final batter, ended the side 1-2-3. The Falcons stepped to the plate, but failed get a runner across to close the first inning 0-0.  The second inning mimicked the first, leaving the game knotted at zero.

A single, a stolen base, and an error put the first run on the board for the AMCats in the top of the third inning to take the 1-0 lead over the Falcons.  In the bottom half of the inning, Anna Maria made a pitching change to start the inning.  After Ivan Rivera's fly out to right field, Angel Perez Vargas walked and then stole second to help himself into scoring position.  A wild pitch moved Perez Vargas to third base eventually putting runners on the corners with Joshua Rogers earning a walk.  Jose Galan doubled to score both Perez Vargas and Sharpe, the pinch runner for Rogers, to give the Falcons a 2-1 advantage over Anna Maria.

Galan reached third base on a wild pitch followed by a Jonathan Rosado walk which forced an AMCat pitching change.  Mitchell Ludholm reached first on a fielder's choice scoring Galan, but forcing Rosado out at second.  Jose Jimenez singled putting Falcons on first and second, moving to second and third on another wild pitch.  Haydell Alicea walked to load the bases for Cody Mercier to step to the plate.  Two passed balls allowed two more Falcons to come home to put them up 5-1.  Mercier was put on first with a walk and moved over to second on a passed ball while Alicea scored.  Anna Maria was finally able to stem the tide when Rivera struck out looking to close out the third inning with the Falcons up 6-1.

Fisher let up one run in the fourth inning to cut their advantage to 6-2 over Anna Maria.  The Falcons added five more runs to their lead on singles by Rogers and Rivera, and doubles by Lundholm and Jimenez.  Heading into the fifth inning, the Falcons were up 11-2. 

Leblanc continued to toe the rubber for the Falcons getting the side to go 1-2-3 again in the fifth inning.  Fisher added three more runs in the bottom half of the inning to take a 14-2 lead.  Anna Maria would add one run in the seventh and another run in the ninth, but failed to close the double digit lead. The Falcons came away with a 14-4 win to split the series with the AMCats.

Jimenez led the Falcons offensively going 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI's.  Lundholm, Galan, Rogers, and Rivera added two hits apiece for the Falcons. 

Leblanc earned the victory on the mound going 6.0 innings only allowing four hits, two runs, and fanning nine batters.  Ismael Perez, Zac White, and Wesley Lopez toed the rubber for an inning each giving up a combined three hits, two runs, and striking out six.

Fisher will return to action tomorrow, February 20, as they will head back to the New England Baseball Complex to take on a former Fisher baseball standout, alumnus Coach Anthony Perry and his Rivier Raiders at 3:00 p.m.
