Triple Action Sunday bring Falcons Hotly Contested Battles

Boston, MA- A well balanced trip to Ohio for the Fisher Falcons was quickly altered as rain moved in forcing the cancellation of the first game on Saturday and forced the second of the double header to turn into a triple on Sunday. After a much longer start to action than originally planned for hampered Fisher, the team managed to pull out one win and leave the weekend still sitting at .500.

In the first game of the triple set the Fisher Falcons fell to Lawrence Tech 12-5. Fisher was able to get on the board first in the top of the first after an Angel Vargas homerun but Lawrence Tech answered back at the bottom of the inning off a Walkowiak single to third base brining in Rinke. The scoring continued after a fielding error which brought home King and Fannon putting Tech up 3-1. With Robinette and Roth crossing the plate before LeBlanc closed out the inning, the Blue Devils took 5-1 lead into the second. The Falcons fought back at the top of the second with Galan getting home after a Lundholm double, who was eventually sent home after a Jimenez double to close out second inning at a score of 5-3. This score held until action picked up again in the bottom of the fourth with Tech forcing a solo run across the plate. Fisher fought to close the gap during the fifth inning with Alicea scoring off of a throwing error and a Galan single sending Mercier home to send it to the bottom of the fifth 5-6. The final two innings saw Lawrence Tech find their stride and add six more runs to close out the first game for the first loss of the day for the Falcons.

The second game of the day saw Fisher shake off some of their delay and slow down the fast bats of Lawrence. Fisher's Haydell Alicea doubled to left center in the bottom of the second to send home Mitchell Lundholm to put the Falcons up 1-0. Sam Brace pitched another scoreless inning in the top of the third allowing Fisher to add to their lead in the bottom of the inning. Ivan Rivera singled up the middle sending Sami Bibovic in for the second run of the game. The top of the fourth found a grand slam by Lawrence Tech swing the game back into their hands and with the winning run coming at the top of the fifth the Blue Devils were able to hold off a sixth inning push by Fisher to win the second game in the three game series by a narrow 5-4 victory.

The final game of the series found the Falcons swinging away at the ball again and fighting their way to a 12-11 victory to avoid the series sweep. Lawrence Tech was able to send three across early but Angel Vagas kept his home run streak alive bringing home Rivera and Mercier across with him to tie the game up at 3 in the bottom of the first. Pitching carried the way through the second where each team managed to find three outs before any runs crossed home plate.  Raymuno Gomez had two runs nabbed from him in the top of the third before Norberto Ceballos came in for relief. Over the next two innings the Blue Devils added two more to the score leaving the score 8-3 going into the bottom of fifth. Between combined efforts in both the bottom of the fifth and sixth innings the Falcons were able to score 9 runs and hold off a final inning attempt by Lawrence to walk away with the final game of the series.

The Falcons are back in action this afternoon at the New England Baseball Complex in Northborough for a double header against Worcester State at 2:30pm and 5pm.
