Falcons Baseball Aims For The School Win Record With Six Games Remaining

Boston, MA- With six games remaining on the regular season schedule, Falcons baseball looks to break the school win record of 37, set by the 2014 Falcons who finished the season 37-17. The Falcons currently own a 36-13 record as they head into the last weekend of play, taking on Rivier University, College of Saint Joseph's (VT), and Talladega College (AL).

Fisher is coming off a strong weekend in which they finished 2-1 against the Bryant & Stratton Bobcats, outscoring the home team 26-10. The team will look to continue their strong offensive play as they have scored an impressive 441 runs this season (9 runs per game), and as a team are batting .354. Out of the day-to-day starters, all but two players are averaging .300 or better, and Mitchell Lundholm (Plymouth, MA) and Jorge Sanchez (Caguas, PR) are hitting above the .400 mark. The Falcons offense has also impressively outscored their opponents 441-221 over the 49-game stretch, with the pitching staff allowing just 158 earned runs. Lundholm leads his team in average (.458), hits (88) stolen bases (23) and RBI's (71), and has a team-best 22 extra base hits this season. His 88 hits is also good enough to lead the entire NAIA and has smashed the Fisher record for hits in a season which was set by Edwin Pena back in 2010 with 68. Sanchez is chasing the same 68-hit mark also, as he currently has 67 hits this season, good for second on the squad, and leads the team in runs (56). The leadoff man has now reached safely to start a game 23 out of his 44 starts. Ivan Rivera (Brooklyn, NY) and John Batista (Lawrence, MA) are also having tremendous seasons as they both have 50+ hits, with Batista leading the way in doubles with 17. Jacob Deziel (Merrimac, MA) and Ismael Perez (Brooklyn, NY) are on their way to a 50-hit season as well as they have combined for 90 hits, 23 of them going for extra bases.

Defensively the pitching staff is led by senior Zack Leblanc (Salem, MA) who recently broke the school record for career strikeouts. The record was set by Patrick Shanahan who earned 203 strikeouts in his career, and Leblanc now has 210 over his four-year career and 72 this season. Leblanc also leads his team in wins (10) which is good enough for third in the NAIA. Johann Doerrer (Dolgeville, NY) and Jose Galan (Alta, PR) are also having stellar seasons on the mound as they have combined for nine wins and 105 strikeouts, while allowing just 40 earned runs over 90 innings pitched. Senior relievers Yamil Delgado and Wesley Lopez, both Caguas, Puerto Rico natives, have pitched well out of the bullpen hurling 42 strikeouts over 42 innings, giving up just 20 earned runs, while seniors Raymundo Gomez (Lynn, MA) and Kevin Bongiovanni (Bayside, NY) have combined for 43 strikeouts over 49 innings pitched out of the bullpen. Defensively, the Falcons have played well, committing just 67 errors for a .959 fielding percentage, good enough for third in the AII Conference.
