Baseball: Falcons rout Rivier in double-header sweep

NASHUA, N.H. – The Fisher College Baseball returned to New England this evening with a double-header sweep over Rivier University inside the friendly confines of Historic Holman Stadium. The Falcons are now 5-1 on the season with the two victories.

Game One: Fisher College 12, Rivier University 1 (Final)

Junior Will Carpenter (Brentwood, N.H.) earned his second consecutive victory on the mound as the Falcon offense erupted for 14 hits in route to a 12-1 game one win over the Raiders.

Carpenter (2-0) allowed just one run (earned) on five hits while striking out six hitters and not issuing a walk. Junior Norberto Ceballos (Loiza, P.R.) surrendered just one hit and struck out two over his 1.1 innings of work while the duo of freshman Joseph Ortiz (Guayama, P.R.) and sophomore Angel Alicea (Caguas, P.R.) combined for 2.2 innings of hitless baseball. Alicea struck out four in his two innings on the hill.

Sophomore Reynaldo Vega (Aguada, P.R.) was the sparkplug in the opener as he belted his first collegiate home run while finishing 2-for-4 with 2 RBI and senior Mitchell Lundholm (Plymouth, Mass.) added a 3-for-4 showing at the dish. Junior Jonathan Rosado (Bayamon, P.R.) went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI and sophomore John Batista (Lawrence, Mass.) also cashed in with three RBI of his own in the win.

Rivier saw freshman Zach White (Long Beach, Calif.) pace the offensive output with a 3-for-3 day, including a solo home run in the second inning. Junior Ryan Schaefer (Everett, Mass.) was credited with the loss after allowing three runs (all earned) on six hits over three innings.

Game Two: Fisher College 12, Rivier University 1 (Final)

The Falcons took the lead with three runs in the top of the first inning and never looked back as they closed out the twin-bill with another 12-1 victory over Rivier University.

Junior Cameron Pearson (Orlando, Fla.) went 4-for-4 with four RBI while both Rosado and Batista added two more RBI to pace the Fisher offense. In total, the Falcons registered a season-high 16 hits over the nine innings as five members of the starting lineup recorded multi-hit games. Joining Vega (2-for-5), Lundholm (2-for-5) and Pearson were juniors Christian Dow (Rochester, N.H.) , who finished 2-for-5 with a RBI and Jacob Deziel (Merrimac, Mass.) who was 2-for-4 with two runs scored.

The pitching staff only allowed one unearned run as they combined to strikeout 11 Raiders on the night. Senior Johann Doerrer (Dolgeville, N.Y.) was credited with the win as he tossed five innings, scattering four hits while striking out seven. Freshman Andres Meletiche (Guayanilla, P.R.) allowed the one unearned run before seniors George Gali (Guayama, P.R.), Jamie Whynot (Bridgewater, N.S.) and Dow finished off the contest with scoreless frames of work.

Junior Dan White (Augusta, Maine) gave up seven runs (five earned) on eight hits as he suffered the loss in his 3.1 innings on the bump. Sophomores Jake Mainey (Merrimack, N.H.) and Brandon Kelly (Lincoln, R.I.) rounded out the game for the Raiders with Kelly pitching three innings of scoreless baseball.

Offensively the Raiders recorded eight hits led by junior Christian Greener (Hermon, Maine), who went a perfect 3-for-3. Junior Dillon Brady (Middleborough, Mass.) added a 2-for-4 showing from the leadoff spot and freshman Patrick Quinn (Seabrook, N.H.) finished 1-for-4.

Fisher will return to action next weekend as they host Bryant & Stratton College –Albany for a four game set at Fraser Field. First pitch is scheduled for 3pm on Saturday afternoon.
