LYNN, MASS. – The Fisher College Baseball team swept visiting Salem State University this afternoon, 6-3 & 8-0 in double-header at Fraser Field. The wins send the Falcons to an overall record of 26-13 while the Vikings are now 4-4.

Game One: Fisher College 6, Salem State University 3 (Final)

Freshman left-hander William Carpenter (Brentwood, N.H.) allowed three runs in the first inning and zeros the rest of the way as he earned the complete game victory in the series opener against Salem State. Carpenter surrendered just five hits over the seven innings of work and struck out six to improve to 3-2 on the season.

The Falcon offense scored two runs in each of the third, fourth and fifth innings for the come-from-behind 6-3 win. Trailing 3-2 in the fourth, junior Nicholas Lucchese (Long Island, N.Y.) laced a one-out triple to right-center to tie the game and then scored on a RBI groundout from senior Mitchell Lundholm (Plymouth, Mass.) as Fisher took the lead they would not relinquish.

Lucchese finished the opener going 2-for-4 with a RBI and Lundholm was 1-for-3 with the RBI. Junior Jacob Deziel (Merrimac, Mass.) also recorded a RBI triple as he was 1-for-3 while freshman Dennis Santiago (Orlando, Fla.) went 1-for-2 with two walks out of the leadoff spot.

Salem State saw junior Christian Burt (Lynn, Mass.) go 2-for-4 as the table setter and sophomore Ernest McClary (Waterbury, Conn.) added two RBIs on his 1-for-2 showing. Freshman Nicholas Rector (Mantua, N.J.) suffered the loss on the mound as he gave up four runs (all earned) on five hits over 3.1 innings. Junior John Mondello (Gloucester, Mass.) allowed two runs on two hits in his 1.2 innings of work and sophomore Brock Pare (Lowell, Mass.) tossed a scoreless frame for the Vikings in the loss.

Game Two: Fisher College 8, Salem State University 0 (Final)

Senior Johann Doerrer (Dolgeville, N.Y.) was just four outs away from a no-hitter as the right-hander pitched the Falcons to an 8-0 game two final and sweep of the double-header. Doerrer finished the game allowing just two hits and striking out seven over his six innings pitched. Sophomore Angel Alicea (Caguas, Puerto Rico) and senior Jose Galan (Alta, Puerto Rico) combined to strike out three hitters in the seventh to lock up the team's 26th win of the season.

Fisher jumped out to an early lead by plating four runs in the first inning, highlighted by a RBI triple from sophomore John Batista (Lawrence, Mass.). Junior Cameron Pearson (Orlando, Fla.) recorded his first RBI of the season with a RBI ground out in the first and then singled home a run in the third. Both Pearson and Batista finished the ballgame each going 1-for-2 with two RBI. Junior Victor Torres (Rochester, N.Y.) was the only Falcon to register multiple hits as he went 2-for-3 and senior Jordan Gosselin (Rochester, N.H.) came off the bench with a RBI single and ending his evening 1-for-1.

For the Vikings, senior Zach Piroh (Bridgeport, Conn.) broke up the no-hit bid with two outs in the sixth as he lined a double into the right-center gap. Freshman Jomar Moreta (Lynn, Mass.) followed with a base knock to account for all of the Salem State offense. Senior right-hander Matthew Enos (Beverly, Mass.) received the loss as he allowed four runs (three earned) on five hits in just 0.2 innings.

As with any attempt at a no-hitter, there are many defensive plays that stand out during the contest. The Falcons had two such plays that kept a zero in the hit column. Batista was able to throw out a runner at first base on a hard-hit ball to him in the fourth and Lundholm made a sprawling dive to his right to snare a line drive in the fifth.

These two teams will finish off the four-game series with a double-header at Salem State tomorrow afternoon. Game time is scheduled for 12pm.
