Cross, MCLA down Fisher 67-55 in non-conference action

On the coldest night of the year, Fisher College shot just 29 percent from the floor and fell to the MCLA Trailblazers 67-55 Wednesday night in Lynn, MA.  The Falcons trailed by three at half time, but second half shooting woes proved costly as they fell to 2-15 on the season.

The Trailblazers scored on their opening possession on a lay-up and a foul from Michael Young but Fisher soon answered with a jumper from sophomore guard Elijah Chisholm (East Boston, MA).  The jumper would spark and 8-1 run for the Falcons extending their lead to 8-4 just four minutes into the contest.

MCLA would responded however as Vernon Cross would knock down a three pointer to bring the visitors within one.  Cross made 4 of 6 three point attempts on the night and finished with a game high 16 points on 6-11 shooting.

The Falcons pushed their lead back to four but back to back Cross three-pointers allowed MCLA to retake the lead and the Trailblazers never looked back.  The Trailblazers led by as many as 6 in the first half and led at the break 29-26.

Luis Tavares (Boston, MA) scored on a lay-up with 16:43 left in the game but this was the closest Fisher got.  Not being able to capitalize on the 17 turnovers MCLA had on the night the Trailblazers lead quickly extended to 8 just a minute and half after Tavares bucket.   Tavares, in his first start of the season was 2-4 from the floor and finished with 4 points and 1 rebound.

Fisher shot 30 percent in the second half but MCLA managed 50 percent and continued to increase their lead down the stretch before eventually putting it out of reach.  The visitors outscored Fisher 38-29 in the second half and improved their record to 3-10.

Chisholm was the only Falcon to reach double figures, scoring 11 points on 4-17 shooting.  He also had 5 rebounds and 2 steals in the loss.  Justin Pascale (Cape Coral, FL) and Alan Womack (Philadelphia, PA) each had solid nights off the bench with 8 and 9 points, respectively.  Womack contributed 6 rebounds as well.

The Falcons were outscored 32-23 in bench points mainly because of Cross' 16 points for the visitors. Sophomore Ryan McCorkle (Bellevue, WA), Fisher's December Athlete of the Month, continued his solid play with 8 points and 10 rebounds.

The Falcons return to action Saturday afternoon when the host Houghton College in American Mideast Conference action.  Houghton, coming off a 75-58 victory of University of Maine – Fort Kent is 6-6 on the year and is opening up American Mideast play.  Tip-off is scheduled for 3pm at Fectau-Leary Gymnasium.
