Falcons Improve to 3-0 with win over Maine-Fort Kent, 72-63

Boston, MA -- The Fisher Falcons had contributions from nine different players as they earned a hard fought 72-63 victory over the University of Maine at Fort Kent this afternoon at Fectau-Leary Gymnasium in Lynn, MA.  With the victory the Falcons improve to 3-0 on the season while the visiting Bengals drop to 0-5 on the year.

Senior Ryan McCorkle paced the Falcons with 14 points and 14 rebounds.  It was McCorkle's second double-double in as many games.  Fort Kent was led by Sean Doman who contributed 15 points, 3 rebounds and 2 assists in the defeat.

Fisher got off to a blistering start, outscoring the Bengals 15-2 over the first 3 ½ minutes.  The Falcons maintained a double digit lead for most of the first half, reaching as much as 16 points with senior Kyndal Jones' layup with 6 minutes to go in the half.

The Falcons went on the hold a 39-26 advantage at the break.  The Falcons early dominance was evident with a 26-6 advantage in points in the paint.   The Bengals struggles were caused by shooting only 28.6% (10-35) in the first half.

The second 20 minutes began just as the first ended with both teams trading buckets early on.  The Falcons were able to stretch their lead to 17 when Ryan McCorkle knocked down a jumper in the lane at the 15:35 mark.

The Falcons looked to be easing to a comfortable victory when with 4:40 left on the clock a Fred Sanchez three pointer cut the deficit to 8 points.  Sanchez had 13 points of the bench for the Bengals and was the key contributor during the visitors late run.

The late push by the Bengals was all for naught as the Falcons closed out their 3rd victory of the young season.  The Falcons return to action next Friday when they take on Emerson College in the 1st round of the Bates College Tournament.  The University of Maine – Fort Kent will look for its 1st win of the season also on Friday against Suffolk University in the opening round of the Roger Williams Tip-Off Tournament.
