Boston, MA – The Westfield State Owls scored right off the opening tip and never looked back as the eased to an 81-65 victory over the Fisher College Falcons. With the win the Owls improve to 3-0 while the Falcons drop to 4-2
The Fisher Falcons trailed 42-24 at the break costly mainly by Westfield States length and athleticism. The Owls caused 18 first half turnovers and scored 20 points of the turnovers. Westfield shot 50% from the floor but only 21% behind the arc in the first half but created more offensive chances by out rebounding the Falcons 20-14.
During the first 20 minutes Westfield dominated just about every area of the score sheet, finishing the first 20 with a 24-8 points in the paint advantage as well as getting 23 points off the bench compared to just 3 three points for Falcons.
The second half proved to be much like the first with the Owls controlling the run of play. The Falcons were about to match the visitors in the scoring column, 39-37 but the first half deficit proved too much to overcome.
Westfield got contributions from 13 different players and was paced offensively by senior Lee Vazquez's (Attleboro, MA) 13 points. On the defensive end senior Matt Devine (Pembroke, MA) made his present felt with 3 blocks to go along with 6 points and 10 rebounds.
Fisher was led by sophomore Tyler Shular's (Norwalk, CT) 18 points. Senior Ryan McCorkle (Bellevue, WA) and sophomore Tyler Radiconi (Westerly, RI) were the only other Falcons to score double digits with 12 and 10 respectively.
The Falcons will return to action in ten days' time when they travel to Colby College on November 30th. Westfield State takes the court again a week from today when they visit Regis College in Weston, MA. Both games are scheduled for a 7:00pm tip-off.
