Men’s Basketball Improves to 2-0

Albany, NY- Fisher College's men's basketball team improves to 2-0 with an 84-54 win over Albany College of Pharmacy (1-1) Sunday afternoon.

The Falcons took a 20-10 lead 10 minutes into the first half on a jump shot made by Ira Haywood (Las Vegas, NV).  The team continued to pressure the Panthers when Kyle Holmes (Hampden, CT) made a three-point shot in the 13th minute to increase the lead to 30-12.  In the last minute of play in the first half, Haywood scored again to increase the Falcons' lead, now 45-19.

Holmes, Haywood, and Darrell Grady (Staten Island, NY) were top scorers in the first half for the Falcons.  The Panthers lead scorers heading into the half were Emmanuel Okafor and Alex Johnson.

Opening the second half, the Panthers started to widdle down the Falcons' lead when Brandon Votra made a Panther lay-up, bringing the score to 59-31.

Jameel Yousif (Chicago, IL) made two free throws half way through the second half giving the Falcons a strong lead of 66-35.  Brandon Robinson (Fort Washington, MD) made a lay-up with 5:13 left in the game when he got an offensive rebound off a Yousif missed shot.   Haywood made a dunk for two points, hitting the 80 point mark for the Falcons. 

Rehan Uddin hit a free throw for the Panthers in the last second of the game to make the final score 84-54.

Three Falcons scored double digits in the victory: Haywood (18), Holmes (17) and Geodice Ortiz (10), combining for 45 of the teams 84 points.      

Fisher College will play host to Embry-Riddle University and the University of Maine-Fort Kent Friday November 14 at 7:00 pm.  The Falcons then return to Fecteau-Leary Gymnasium in Lynn, MA, on Saturday as they host Embry-Riddle University for a 2:00pm tip-off.
