Falcons Drop Nail Biter to Embry-Riddle 88-82

 

Boston, MA – The Fisher College Falcons dropped to 2-1 on the season with a six-point loss to Embry-Riddle University (4-0), who is ranked 20 in the NAIA.

The game kicked off in Fisher's favor when Geodice Ortiz (Denver, CO) hit a layup to go ahead 4-3. Ortiz kept the Falcons in wingspan of the Eagles when he hit two free throws to knot the score at nine with 15:30 left in the first half.  

Embry-Riddle took a seven-point lead at the 10:51 mark when Joseph Gonazalez made a layup to bring the score 21-14. With less than three minutes left to play in the half, Eagle Cesar Pastrana made a three-point jump shot to put his team up 40-33.  

Ira Haywood (Las Vegas, NV) cut the Eagles' lead with three seconds left on the clock to 44-38.

The Falcons' leading scorers in the first half were Onesimus Moore (10), Ortiz (9), Haywood (9), and Kyle Holmes (8). Ortiz and Holmes paced the Falcons with rebounds, having three apiece in the half.

Embry-Riddle was paced in the first half by Dalton Barnes and Reed Ridder. Barnes had 14 points and three rebounds while Ridder had 10 points and two rebounds.

The Falcons opened the second half strong, taking the 45-44 lead when Moore hit a jump shot. Daniel Keisling put the Eagles ahead with a layup to up the score 48-45. 

Tyler Shular (Norwalk, CT) hit a three-point shot to put the Falcons ahead by one—51-50—of the Eagles with 16:21 left in the game. At the 10:45 mark, the Eagles took their biggest lead of the second half when Keisling hit a jump shot to bring the score to 66-57.

Both teams fought until the last seconds to finalize the score at 88-82. Embry-Riddle had five players score double-digit points.

Moore led the Falcons with 18 points and seven rebounds. Other key players in the matchup for the Falcons were Shular (15 points, 3 rebounds), Holmes (14 points, 3 rebounds), Haywood (13 points), and Ortiz (11 points, 7 rebounds).   

Fisher returns to the court Wednesday when Cazenovia College travels to Fecteau-Leary Gymnasium in Lynn, MA. Tip-off is slated for 6:00 pm.
