Falcons Conquer Scots 79-76

Boston, MA – In a non-conference match-up between Fisher College and Gordon College, the Falcons conquered the Scots with a score of 79-76. Gordon drops to 2-6 on the season while Fisher moves to 8-3.

Gordon started the scoring in the matchup when Taylor Bajema hit a layup to put the Scots up 2-0. The Scots went up 5-0 after Dominic Paradis sank a three pointer. Another two pointer put the Scots up 7-2. The Falcons then went on a seven-point run to give them their first lead of the game, 9-7. After two layups, the Scots took the lead back and went up 11-9. 

Neither team took a large lead until Kyle Holmes (Hamden, CT) started an offensive run for the Falcons. Holmes and Geodice Ortiz (Denver, CO) hit a layup, then one from behind the arc to give Fisher a five-point lead. Gordon came back with a jump shot t0 pull the Falcons within three. 

Fisher took advantage of its offensive fire and took a nine-point lead, 34-25. Gordon held Fisher from scoring and the Scots tied the game, yet again at 34. Chris Green (Middle Island, NY) hit a free throw before time ran out in the first half. Heading into the break, Fisher was ahead 35-34.

The Falcons lead in the first half by Ortiz with 10 points and five rebounds. Other Falcons to help in the first half were Ira Haywood (Las Vegas, NV), Holmes, and Tyler Shular (Norwalk, CT).

Scots' lead scorers for the first half were Hans Miersma with 10 points and seven rebounds, while Taylor Bajema had nine points and one rebound. Carter Bras and Paradis scored five points apiece for the Scots in the first half.

Coming off the break, the Scots took the lead, 36-35, on a Bajema jump shot. Green and Shular didn't allow the Scots to hang on to the lead and put the Falcons up 40-36. Fisher then held the lead until Jaren Yang hit a shot from behind the arc to put the Scots up 45-44. With 12:31 left in the game, Haywood hit a layup to put the Falcons back up for the remainder of the game. The Scots managed to tie the game at 57 in with just under 6:00 left in the game. 

The Falcons held at most a five-point lead with only five minutes left in the game. Both teams fought hard for 40 minutes, but when the time expired, the Falcons were ahead 79-76.

Falcons' leading scorer was Shular with 18 points and three rebounds. Holmes (16 points, one rebound) and Ortiz (14 points, seven rebounds) helped the Falcons to their victory.

Despite the Scots' loss, Bajema recorded 21 points and one rebound. Dempsey had 18 points and grabbed eight rebounds, and Miersma recorded a double-double with 16 points and 18 rebounds.

Gordon heads to Cambridge, MA, on December 13 to take on Lesley University at 5:00 pm. Fisher continues its home-stand when it hosts Vaugh College on December 13. Tip-off is slated at 3:00 pm after the women's team hosts University of Maine-Fort Kent at 1:00 pm.
