Boston, MA – Fisher College was downed by West Virginia Tech University (WVTU) Saturday afternoon in a non-conference NAIA matchup, 77-63. Fisher dropped to 14-5 on the season while WVTU improved to 15-5.

The game started off in the Falcons favor going on a 9-0 run before the Golden Bears hit their first shot of the game. Tyler Shular (Norwalk, CT), Chris Green (Middle Island, NY), Darrell Grady (Long Island, NY), and OJ Moore (Houston, TX) were responsible for the Falcons points.

WVTU went on an eight-point run with a three-pointer from Jauries Thomas to bring the Golden Bears within two of the Falcons, 14-12. The score was frozen at 14-12 for a few possessions before Leon Cooper, Jr. hit a layup while getting fouled and hit his free throw, giving the Golden Bears their first lead of the game, 15-14.

Kyle Holmes (Hamden, CT) hit two free throws to put the Falcons back up, 16-15. Golden Bear Jaren Marino then hit a three-pointer to give the visitors an 18-16 lead. The game was neck and neck, tied at 18, 20, and 24. Green hit a jump shot with two minutes left in the half to bring the Falcons within one. Marino hit two free throws before the clock ran out and the score froze at 31-28 heading into the break.

Fisher was led by Shular in the first half, scoring 10 points and grabbing four rebounds. Other key Falcons in the first half were Green and Holmes. Green netted eight points while Holmes scored four.

Marion led the way for the Golden Bears, scoring 10 points in the first half. Sharife Sergeant scored six points while grabbing seven rebounds. Ra'Shaud Kincaid and Thomas scored five points apiece in the first half for the visitors.

The second half started positively for WVTU when Cooper, Jr. and Sergeant both hit jump shots to give a lead of 35-28. Shular then hit a layup to bring the Falcons back within five, 35-30. WVTU then took a 10-point lead when Cooper, Jr. made a layup to change the score to 40-30. Five points from Green and a dunk by Geodice Ortiz (Denver, CO) brought the Falcons within six of the Golden Bears, 43-37.

WVTU then went on a 17-7 run to bring their lead to 60-46 over the Falcons with 7:04 left in the game. With 3:13 left on the clock Marino hit two free throws to then bring the score to 73-56. Ira Haywood (Las Vegas, NV) then hit a free throw to bring the score to 73-57. The Golden Bears hit four free throws while Fisher battled back with six points to bring the score to 77-63. WVTU gained the final possession of the game and held on to the ball to finalize the score at 77-63.

Cooper, Jr, finished the game with 17 points on the afternoon and grabbed one rebound. Sergeant finished with the lone double-double of the game, scoring 15 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. Other key WVTU scorers were Kincaid and Marino, both scoring 12 points.

For the Falcons, Shular finished the game with 17 points while grabbing five boards. Holmes finished the afternoon with 14 points and three rebounds. Other key Falcons were Green and Moore, scoring 13 points and 10 points respectively.

The Falcons return to action on Monday, January 19, when they travel to Wheaton College for 2:00 pm non-conference match up.
