Gators Fall to Fisher in Season Finale

CHESTNUT HILL, MA – Denson Lumene (Stuart, FL) had 19 points off the bench, but it wasn't enough to lift Pine Manor past Fisher in the Gators' season finale on Thursday night as they were handed a 106-85 defeat.

Pine Manor closes out the program's first season with a 10-10 record, while the win moves Fisher to 19-7.

In addition to Lumene, three other Gators reached double-figures. Brannon Shaw (Vero Beach, FL) had 14, while Chancie Williams (Hartford, CT) and Tank Roberson (Pittsfield, MA) had 13 and 11, respectively.

The Falcons got a big game out of junior forward Geodice Ortiz (Denver, CO) who recorded the game's only double-double with 24 points and 11 rebounds, both game-highs. Junior Tyler Shular (Norwalk, CT) added 17 points and Ira Haywood (Las Vegas, NV) contributed 16 off the bench.

The two teams played each other tight for the first 10 minutes of the half before Fisher began to pull away. Leading by two with nine minutes left to play, the Falcons went on a 12-4 run, punctuated by a Haywood dunk, to open up a 37-27 lead with six minutes remaining.

Two minutes later, the visitors had another big 13-2 run to open up the lead to 18. The Gators had a mini-run at the end of the half to trail 54-42 into the half.

Fisher shot 67 percent from the field in the first half including going 4-for-5 from downtown. The Gators tried to counter with tough defense, forcing the guest to make 19 turnovers, 10 of them coming off Pine Manor steals.

The Gators came out in the second half looking to cut into the lead. They got the deficit back down to single-digits just two minutes in when Roberson made a three-pointer to make the score 56-47.

However, two minutes later, Shular started a 14-0 Fisher run that would extend the gap to 25. The Falcons would lead by as much as 36, controlling much of the second half.

The Gators continued to fight down the stretch and had a 12-3 rally late in the period, but they were unable to overcome the large deficit.

While the Gators' season is over, Fisher still has a few more games on the docket. They will visit MCLA on Saturday at 12:30 pm.
