Falcons dominate in home opener; 102-88

Lynn, Massachusetts – The Fisher College men's basketball team opened their season 1-0 with a dominant victory over the University of Maine-Machias. Machias drops to .500 on the season (1-1) with the 102-88 loss to the Falcons.

Tyler Shular (Norwalk, Connecticut) stole the show the first half when he went on a solo 11-point run for the Falcons, hitting three from behind the arc and a layup to bring the score to 24-14. The Clippers battled hard and although they were trailing Fisher, they managed to bring the score within seven points on an Ivory Snead layup to 37-28 Fisher.

The Falcons continued to pressure the Clippers and froze the score at 58-39 going into half time. Shular lead the Falcon flock with 28 points in the first half. Malik Wilson (St. Louis Park, Minnesota) and Aaron Penn (Atlanta, Georgia) each scored eight points to help the Falcons to their first-half domination. Jorge Milo was the dominant force for the Clippers with 22 of the teams' points in the first half.

The second half opened a little rocky for both teams with Shular netting the first shot almost two minutes into the half. Fisher continued to keep Machias at a distance, but the hot offense froze for the Falcons to give Machias an opportunity to cut the lead. Milo hit two free throws with more than 11 minutes left to play in the game, bringing the Clippers back within 11 points.

Darrell Grady (Staten Island, New York) and Kyle Holmes (Hamden, Connecticut) took the team on a short run to boost the Falcons back up by 22, 87-65. With eight minutes left on the clock, the Falcons had one thing in mind, finish the game on top, pressuring the Clippers both offensively and defensively. During the last eight minutes, Machias outscored the Falcons 23-15, finalizing the score at 102-88.

Shular finished the game with a double-double, scoring 37 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Holmes and Penn scored 16 points each for the Falcons in the victory. Milo was the leading scorer for the Clippers with 36 points, while Ben Teer had 16 points.

The Falcons will take on the University of Maine-Fort Kent on Saturday, November 16, at 2:00 p.m. in the last game of the November Classic. Machias will take on the College of Saint Joseph's in the 12:00 p.m. game on Saturday afternoon.
