Falcons prey on Lyons with 84-73 victory

NORTON, Mass. - Junior Quinton Dale notched a career-high 23 points on Monday night in the Wheaton College men's basketball teams 84-73 loss to Fisher College in Emerson Gymnasium.

The loss drops the Lyons to 7-5 on the season, while the Falcons improve to 8-7 overall.

Dale scored his 23 points on an impressive 10-18 performance from the floor. The junior forward also pulled down a game-high 17 rebounds for his seventh career double-double. Sophomore Ryan Fogarty ended the night with 14 points, while Billy Battaglia netted 13 and Liam Bruno finished with 10.

Tyler Shular finished with a game-high 24 points for the visiting Falcons on a 6-11 performance from the floor, which included hitting 5-8 from three-point range. The senior also drained 7-9 from the free-throw line. Aaron Penn ended with 14 points and Kyle Holmes added 13, while pulling down a team-high eight boards. Brandon Robinson led all players with 10 assists.

Wheaton held its only lead of the contest right out of the gate with a layup in the paint by Dale. Penn tied the contest at 2-2 moments later with a jumper, which was quickly followed by a fast break three-pointer from Darrell Grady. Trailing 15-9, Dale helped cut the Lyon deficit to two points, 15-13, with a jumper followed by a layup. The Falcon offense caught fire however, earning a 12 point, 44-32, lead with 1:55 left until the intermission. Wheaton managed to close out the half on a 6-3 run, sending the team into the locker room trailing 47-38.

The Lyons opened the second half on a mission, whittling the nine point deficit to just two points with an opening 10-3 run. Fisher had a response though, earning its largest lead of the game five minutes later with a strong 15-6 run, which was capped off by back-to-back Robinson free-throws. Wheaton managed to pull within five, 76-71, with 2:49 left to play on a Dale layup but that would be as close as the Lyons would get. The Falcons went on to close out the half with an 8-2 run.

Fisher returns to action Wednesday, January 13 as they travel to Rutland, Vermont to take on the Fighting Saint of the College of Saint Joseph.  Tip-off is slated for 7:00 p.m.
