Falcons steal a victory from Bengals 77-70

LYNN, Mass. -- In the second time meeting this season, the Falcons stole a victory from the University of Maine- Fort Kent after losing to them in the first meeting.  The Falcons improve to 13-7 on the season with the 77-70 victory of the Bengals who drop to 16-4.

The game got off to a slow start, but the Falcons got on the board first with Brodric Smith hitting two free throws to put up a 2-0 lead over UMFK.  The Bengals ended up taking an 8-6 lead over the Falcons with 14:02 left on the clock.  

The lead flopped back and forth for several minutes before Fisher was able to take a 34-30 lead on a Cooper Neal lay up.  Time expired quickly on the clock with the Falcons holding a 36-33 lead at halftime.  

UMFK nailed a free throw to cut the lead to two, but the Falcons went on a 12-point run to take a 47-34 lead.  The Bengals closed the gap a little before the Falcons were able to open it back up to an 11-point lead, 54-43 on a Jamontay Thompson free throw.

The Bengals closed the gap to one point on a made layup, 57-56.  Malik Wilson and Smith hit back to back layups to give the Falcons a 61-56 lead.  UMFK brought the game within four, the smallest game after a one point gap, 69-65.  Darrell Grady was shoved to the ground bringing on a technical foul as well as a foul.  With him hitting 4-out-of-6 free throws in 20 seconds, the Falcons had a 73-65 lead.

Neal hit one free throw with :02 on the clock, but missed the second closing out the game with a 77-70 victory over UMFK.

Nead was the leading scorer for the Falcons with 15 points and 7 rebounds.  Kyle Holmes recorded a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds.  Wilson added 13 points and six rebounds while Smith added 10 points.

The Falcons will play host to Washington Adventist University on Monday evening at 7:00 p.m. in the Fecteau-Leary Gymnasium in Lynn, Mass.
