Men’s Basketball Earns Overtime Victory Against SUNY Delhi; 81-75

Delhi, N.Y -- The Fisher College men's basketball team faced off against the SUNY Delhi Broncos Sunday in a men's and women's double header.. Having played yesterday against Villa Maria, the Falcons (1-2) face a rested Broncos (0-3) team.  Both teams lost to Villa Maria during the weekend and were looking to redeem themselves in this matchup.

 

The Falcons started the game off hot going on an 11-0 run started with a made jumper by Mikol Blake-Green. As quick as they took the lead, the Broncos retaliated with a 14-0 run of their own taking a 14-11 lead with 12:11 left to go in the first half.  The Broncos utilized an 8-0 run heading into halftime with the Broncos up 33-26.

 

The start of the second half, Anthony Kellum hit a jump shot for the Falcons.  Halfway through the second half the Broncos took a commanding 54-41 lead over the Falcons. Coming down to the final 5 minutes of the game, the Falcons were down 62-49. 

 

With just 2:30 left in the game, Fisher brought the game within 5-points, 65-60.  Under a minute left to play in the game, the Falcons were still down 67-62.  Kellum hit a 3-pointer to put the Falcons within two and 40 seconds remaining on the clock.  The Broncos hit a layup to go up by four, but Falcons' guard Brandon Rembert nets a quick layup putting the Falcons back down by two with 12 seconds left in the game.

 

Fisher quickly fouled a Broncos player forcing them to hit two late game free throws potentially win the game. Jake Slobe stepped to the line, hits the first free throw, but missed the second giving the Broncos a 3-point lead. Jamontay Thompson grabbed the defensive rebound, goes coast-to-coast shooting a 3-pointer, tying the game at 70-70 with time expiring.

 

In overtime, DeAndre Pennington came up with two big steals to seal the game in favor of the Fisher Falcons who won 81-75 in overtime.

 

Falcon Mikol Blake-Green led the way with 16 points and 8 rebounds. Mena Yacoub gave the Falcons a spark off the bench with 12 points, hitting four 3-pointers. Brandon Rembert and Kellum added 11 points in the victory.  SUNY Delhi's William Knight led all scorers with 18 points. Jordan Fragale added 13 points and 10 rebounds for the Broncos.

 

The Falcons now move on to face Lyndon State on November 15, in Lyndon, Vermont with a scheduled tip for 6:00 p.m.
