Falcons Defend Nest on Senior Night

Lynn, Mass. – Fisher College held on to defeat the Newbury College Nighthawks 91-87 on Monday, February 12 which served as the Falcons senior night.  The Falcons wrap up their season with an 11-16 record after their victory over Newbury.  Seniors Anthony Kellum, Jamontay Thompson, and DeAndre Pennington who combined for 62 points led the Falcons to their final victory.

Newbury opened the game with a 3-pointer by Daivon Edwards just seconds into the game.  Kellum hit two free throws followed by a Pennington layup to put Fisher ahead 4-3.  Jeduan Langston hit another 3-pointer for the Nighthawks to go up 6-4 over the Falcons.  After another Newbury layup, the Falcons powered ahead to regain the lead going up 10-8 over the Nighthawks. 

The game was close, until Edwards put Newbury up 27-26.  Momentum took over for the Nighthawks with two made shots from behind the arc and two made free throws putting Newbury ahead 35-26 over the Falcons with just under 10 minutes left in the half.  The Nighthawks continued their offensive assault taking a 16-point lead over Fisher, 45-29.  Fisher answered with a 16-3 run to cut their deficit to 3-points, 48-45.  With just over 15 seconds to play, Thompson hit a 3-pointer for the Falcons to put them within one heading into the break, 56-55 Nighthawks lead.

After the break, the reenergized Nighthawks took off with a 10-point run forcing a Fisher timeout.  Brandon Rembert took matters into his owns hands for the Falcons and started a 7-point run with two free throws, a 3-pointer by Kellum, and a jumper to bring Fisher back within seven points, 66-59.  Kellum made a layup for the Falcons to close in on the Nighthawks forcing the visitors to take a timeout, 66-64 Newbury.  Fisher knotted the game at 69-69 on a made layup and free throw by Thompson.  A free throw made by Langston put Newbury right back on top, 70-69. 

Thompson was sent to the free throw line a moment later netting both shots to give the Falcons a one-point advantage.  Pennington hit a layup to give the Falcons a 73-70 lead, but Edwards hit another shot from way back behind the arc to tie the game at 73 apiece.  With the score bouncing back and forth and time running down, Newbury regained a five-point lead over Fisher on a made dunk by Langston, 82-77.  Kellum went on a four-point run of his own to draw the game at 84-all.

Fisher closed out the contest with a 7-3 run over Newbury to finalize the game in the Falcons favor 91-87.

Senior Anthony Kellum dominated the Falcons offense with a team-high, career-high, and game-high 31 points and 7 rebounds.  Rembert and Pennington added double-doubles with 17 points and 10 rebounds apiece.  Pennington added 14 points and 3 rebounds in the victory.

Edwards scored a game-high 31 points for the Nighthawks netting nine 3-pointers and grabbing 3 rebounds.  Langston added 21 points and 5 rebounds while Miguel Rivera added 14 points and 3 rebounds.
