Men's Basketball Falls To Villa Maria In The Season Opener

BUFFALO, NY - A stifling defense from the Villa Maria Vikings held back the Falcons offense last evening in the season opener at the Villa Maria Tip-Off Classic, as the team dropped their season opener in a tough loss, 97-66.

The Vikings jumped out to an early 7-0 lead, but Fisher was able to cut the lead to five from back-to-back lay-ups from Brandon Rembert (Camden, NJ) to make it 11-6 at the 15:33 mark  However, the stifling defense from the Vikings which caused 17 Falcons turnovers, while also out-rebounding the Falcons 57-35, proved to be too much for the Falcons as that would be the closest they would get the remainder of the contest.  The Falcons did take advantage of 18 Vikings turnovers as they outscored Villa 17-14 in points off turnovers.

Rembert and Jhalen Lumpkins (Sacramento, CA) led the way offensively for the Falcons as they combined for 37 points (20 and 17 respectively).  Ville Milan (Turku, Finland) also contributed from behind the arc as he hit two three-pointers, his first six points of the young season. Abrian Dickson (Indian Wells, AZ) tacked on six boards and two steals for his squad, while Milan and Rembert each grabbed two steals to contribute defensively.

Fisher will look to bounce back this afternoon as they take on Bryant & Stratton at 4pm at the Villa Athletic Center.
