Falcons Fall To Western Colorado University In The Opener Of The Colorado Mesa Thanksgiving Classic

Grand Junction, CO- Despite outscoring the Western Colorado Mountaineers (2-3) 40-30 in the second half, the Falcons (3-5) could not overcome the first half deficit and fell 93-69 in the first game of the Colorado Mesa Thanksgiving Classic this afternoon.

Western Colorado came out of the gate on fire knocking down five 3-pointers in the first five minutes of the contest, forcing a Falcons timeout as they were quickly down 23-8. The Mountaineers continued their impressive shooting the rest of the first half as the team shot an astounding 69% from the floor, while holding the Falcons to 30%. Fisher struggled to contain Brady Subart as he was 5 of 5 in 3-point shots in the first half to lead all scorers with 16 at the break and helped put his team up 63-29 heading into the locker room.

The Falcons responded out of the break as their offense started to get hot as they went on a 14-7 run to start the second half, capped by a shot Chris Sorapuru (Temecula, CA) to bring them back within 27 at the 14:14 mark. As a team the Falcons shot well in the second half, shooting 57% from the floor while bringing the Mountaineers shooting back down to earth as they shot 33% in the second half giving them a chance to get back into the game.  Jhalen Lumpkins led his team in with 12 points in the second half on 3 for 3 shooting, and 6 for 7 at the charity stripe, while Giovanni Thompson (Kissimmee, FL) and Brandon Rembert (Camden, NJ) each had eight points in the second stanza, but the first half proved to be too much to come back from as the Mountaineers finished with a 93-69 win.

Lumpkins, Thompson and Rembert all finished with 14 points each on the afternoon and combined for 16 rebounds. Anthony Lewis (Lodi, CA) was a spark off the bench for Coach Blouin as he tallied nine points, including 90% shooting from the free throw line.

The Falcons will look to bounce back tomorrow at 7PM as they take on the host team Colorado Mesa Mavericks (3-1).  The Mavericks will take on Graceland University tonight at 7pm.
