New Haven, CT- The Fisher Falcons (4-8) got out to an early lead against the host Albertus Magnus Falcons (8-3), but they could not hold on as they were defeated by AMC 100-81 this afternoon at the Cosgrove Marcus Messer Athletic Center.
The game got off to a back and forth start as each team held a lead in the first five minutes of the game with AMC leading 10-9. Fisher then went on an 11-4 run capped by a Jhalen Lumpkins (Sacramento, CA) three-pointer to give themselves a 20-14 lead at the 11:52 mark. FC would hold the lead for the next five minutes of play until AMC tied the game 29-29 on a three-point play from Tyreek Perkins. AMC would close out the first half with an 8-0 run to head into halftime with a 49-41 lead.
The home team began the half rallying off five straight points extending their lead to 54-41 with 18:16 left to play. Fisher responded and would get within eight points after a 7-2 run to bring the score to 56-48 at the 15:47 mark, however Albertus began to pull away and grabbed its largest lead at the 6:20 mark 87-64. The Falcons did all they could to stay close but ran out of time and fell to the non-conference opponent 100-81.
Lumpkins had his best scoring effort of the season for the Falcons as he led all scorers this afternoon with 26 points, while grabbing four rebounds off the bench for Coach Blouin. Giovanni Thompson (Kissimmee, FL) had a strong day for Fisher as well as he had 17 points on 8 for 10 shooting and added five rebounds. Chris Sorapuru (Temecula, CA) was the other Falcon to score in double figures as he tallied 14 points with four steals in the losing effort. AMC was led by Rayshawn Brewer who had 20 points and eight rebounds for the home team.
The Falcons will head up to the University of Maine-Machias on Wednesday, December 12 for a 7:30pm game, a team they defeated once this season back on November 7th by a score of 77-61.
