Falcons Make It Two In A Row With A Win Over The Bengals

Boston, MA- The Men's Basketball team has now won two in a row for the second time this season to up their record to 6-8 after a 78-67 win over the visiting University of Maine-Fort Kent Bengals (5-11).

The first half got off to a slow start for both teams as each team started cold shooting from the floor and combined for just 24 points in the first 10:00 of play, as the Falcons led 14-10. There were also seven lead exchanges in the first ten minutes, with the four points being the largest margin for either team. Three back-to-back 3-pointers, including two from Abrian Dickson (Indian Wells, AZ), gave the Falcons the momentum they were looking for to pull away. The Bengals responded, however, with their own 7-2 run over the next four minutes to bring them back to within six at 25-19 with 3:19 remaining before the half. Malik Tavares (Providence, RI) would give Fisher another 3-pointer just before the half and the two teams headed to the locker room with the Falcons up 30-22.

The three-point parade continued right out of the gate in the second half as Mena Yacoub (Clermont, FL) and Tavares drained their shots from behind the arc in the first minute to take a quick 36-22 lead. The Falcons would earn their biggest lead of the game when Tavares hit another jumper to give his team a 15-point lead with 17:14 remaining. The Bengals would not go quietly and continued to chip away as they would cut the deficit to six at 57-51, as Jarid Walton layed it in for two with 8:38 remaining. The Falcons responded with the next eight points and would put the game out of reach for good as the Bengals could not get closer than nine down the rest of the contest. Fisher's hot shooting in the second half was the difference as they outscored UMFK 48-45 in the second half on 52% shooting from the floor, including 50% from behind the line.

Giovanni Thompson (Kissimmee, FL) led his Falcons with 20 points and 10 rebounds for his second straight game with a double-double and third overall this season. Tavares tallied a season-high 17 points in the win to go along with a pair of rebounds and assists. Jhalen Lumpkins was the third Falcon in double figures as he contributed with 12 points off the bench while grabbing six boards. Kyle Snowden (Santa Cruz, CA) played a strong point for his team as he dished out seven assists and had two steals on the afternoon.  The Bengals were led offensively by Chance Cole who had 20 points, six rebounds and four steals in the losing effort.
