Men's Basketball Opens Up The Season With A Split With The Bobcats

Buffalo, NY- The Men's Basketball team opened up their season on the road, heading to Buffalo, NY to take on the Bryant & Stratton Bobcats of both Buffalo and Rochester over the weekend. The Falcons opened up with a hard fought loss to the host BSC-Buffalo team, falling 73-71 on Saturday evening. But the Falcons came back on Sunday, earning a split on the trip, with an 84-67 of BSC-Rochester. 

In the first contest of the season the Falcons came out strong claiming the lead for the first eight minutes of play, holding a 14-12 lead at the 12:08 mark. The Falcons maintained the lead for the next eight minutes of play until the Bobcats finished out the last four minutes of the half with a 10-6 run to claim the 35-34 halftime lead. The back and forth action continued in the second half, as there were a total of 14 lead changes in the contest. With the score tied at 50 a piece with 11:40 remaining, the Bobcats made a crucial 11-3 run giving them their biggest lead of the game at 61-53. The Falcons responded with their own run though, re-claiming the lead at 65-64 with a Jhalen Lumpkins (Sacramento, CA) lay-up with just over four minutes left to play. With two more ties and two more lead changes, it came down to the wire. The Falcons had an open look at the buzzer for the win, but the three-pointer rattled out and the Falcons fell 73-71. 

Lumpkins led the way for the Falcons with 19 points, eight rebounds and a pair of steals in the losing effort. Cole Barton (Los Angeles, CA), Nicolas Gonzalez (Madrid, Spain) and Chris Sorapuru (Temecula, CA) all contributed with double figures as the three combined for 39 points and 18 boards. Jordan Street led all scorers with 22 points for the hosts, as he led his team to the program's first-ever victory.

The Falcons responded on Sunday though, as they came away with an 84-67 win, defeating the BSC-Rochester Bobcats to improve to 1-1. Lumpkins again led the way for the Falcons, tallying his first double-double of the season with a 20-point, 14 board performance. Jason Augliera (Discovery Bay, CA) notched his first double-digit performance in his Falcons career, earning 13 points in the victory. Gonzalez and Sorapuru were the other two Falcons in double digits, scoring 14 and 11 points respectively. 

Fisher will have a week to rest as they do not play again until Tuesday, November 12 when they play host to the Pine Manor College Gators at 7pm.
