Men’s Soccer Downed in Double Overtime

Randolph, VT – Fisher College men's soccer (3-7) was downed in the last minutes of double overtime by Vermont Tech (6-6-1) with a score of 2-1.

 

Possession of the ball flopped between both teams in the first half. However, in the 19th minute, Tyler Gahara (Hooksett, NH) took charge and scored the first goal of the game. Fisher then led the game 1-0. 

 

Both teams put pressure on the opposing goalies, with Fisher's Jose Villagran (Somerville, MA) making four saves while Vermont Tech's Darian Calverley made two saves in the first half. 

 

At the half, Fisher continued to hold the lead at 1-0.

 

In the second half, Vermont Tech took control of the ball. The possessions were proven positive for the Knights in the 55th minute when Matthew Brien knotted the score at 1.

 

Neither team was able to score in the last 35 minutes of the game, resulting in the first overtime. In the first 10-minute overtime, both teams were unable to take a shot. 

 

The Knights dominated the second overtime, taking three shots to the Falcons' zero. In the 108th minute, Brien scored the game-winning goal. 

 

Villagran managed six saves in regulation time and one save in overtime in the Falcons' loss. 

 

The men's team returns Saturday, October 4, in a home double header against Kings College of New York. The double header will start with the women's team playing at 1:00pm and the men playing at 3:00pm at Hormel Stadium in Medford, MA.
