Falcons Fall to Eagles, 1-0

Nashua, NH – Senior Greg Mashburn (Charlotte, North Carolina) scored just 2:51 into the contest and the goal stood up over the next 87 minutes as host Daniel Webster held off Fisher, 1-0, in an NCAA-NAIA regional crossover men's soccer contest Wednesday at Eagle Field.

Mashburn's first of the season and second of his career came off a scrum in front and helped the Eagles even their record (3-3) and halt a three-game slide. The Eagles topped the Falcons (1-2-1) for the third straight season and fifth straight time overall.

The hosts controlled much of the tempo, finishing with a decisive 15-2 shots on goal advantage (24-5 overall), and drew eight corners to just one for the Falcons.

But the Eagles were stymied by solid net play from Falcon keeper Eliseau DiPena (Boston, Massachusetts) who finished with 14 saves, including eight in the second half.

Sean Hamilton (Brookline, New Hampshire) picked up his third shutout of the season (17th career), making two stops.

Hamilton's two toughest tests didn't result in saves as Fisher nearly tied it on two occasions. Tyler Gahara (Hooksett, New Hampshire) sent a wicked 30-yarder that clanged off the upper right cross bar with five minutes remaining in the first half, while Kevin Ochoa's (Everett, Massachusetts) attempt on a partial breakaway from 10 yards out sailed inched over the net in the 75th minute.

DWC's best chance for breathing room came in the 70th as Marcus Marshall was fed alone from 18 yards in front but his shot sailed just inches wide.

The Eagles return to action on Saturday as they open NECC play hosting Lesley at 3:00 p.m. Fisher visits Maine-Presque Isle on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
