Fisher men's soccer team plays to 2-2 tie at Mitchell

NEW LONDON, Connecticut-After two overtime periods at Mitchel College's Alumni Stadium, the Fisher College men's soccer team worked to a 2-2 tie on Saturday afternoon.

The Falcons narrowly avoided defeat with senior midfielder Gary Maldonado (Lawrence, Massachusetts) netting the game-tying goal with less that four minutes remaining in regulation.
Fisher struck first when a shot by junior forward Tyler Gahara (Hooksett, New Hampshire) got by Mariner keeper Romer Ochoa (Uncasville, Connecticut) 23 minutes into the contest. Gahara's finish marked the only goal of the first half.

The Mariner offense was silent until the 60th minute when freshman forward Andrew Stornton (Oxford, England) notched his first two collegiate goals within a six-minute span.
The one-goal margin stood until the 87th minute of the match. Falcon freshman forward Gabriel Marquez (Caracas, Venezuela) nearly tied the game with a shot that Ochoa punched over the crossbar.

On the ensuing corner kick, Maldonado buried the equalizer into the right side of the net.
Mitchell and Fisher pushed numbers forward during both overtime periods, but the game clock expired before either was able to secure its game-winner.

Fisher goalkeeper Eliseau DiPena (Boston) finished the day with two stops against 13 shots. Ochoa finished with 8 saves while starter Anthony Drake (Wethersfield, Connecticut) made four for the Mariners.

With the tie, Fisher moves to 1-1-1 on the season. The Falcons will return to action Wednesday when they travel to face Daniel Webster College at 4 p.m. Mitchell (1-2-1) plays at Mount Ida College on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
