Penalty Kick Pushes Fisher Passed CSJ; 2-1

Medford, Mass. – The Fisher College Falcons pushed passed the College of St. Joseph of Vermont (7-2) in an NAIA-USCAA match-up on Saturday afternoon to improve to 4-3-1 on the season.

Fisher College started off strong in the first few minutes of the game, but CSJ took advantage of a Falcon miscue and netted the first goal in the 12th minute of the game. CSJ took a 1-0 lead over the Falcons and held onto the lead for the rest of the first half. Despite their efforts and taking 13 shots, the Falcons were unable to put a shot past CSJ goalie Julio Garcia.

The second half started with back and forth calls, but it wasn't until the 67th minute that Fisher had a foul called for them in the box. With the call inside the box, the Falcons were granted a penalty kick, taken by Tyler Gahara (Hookset, New Hampshire). Gahara put the ball in the lower left corner to even the score at one with just over 20 minutes left to play.

Both teams continued to battle hard despite the physicality of the game. The Falcons used the battles to their advantage for the remainder of the game. CSJ fouled a Falcon player at the 3:27 mark, Jordan Markovich (Saugus, California) took the shot, hitting the crossbar with the ball dropping in the net to put Fisher up 2-1. The Fighting Saints used the Falcons' second goal as motivation and pressured the Falcons' defense, but it wasn't enough before the clock ran out.

Eliseau DiPena (Boston) took the victory in net making three saves and improving his record to 2-2-1 on the season. Garcia took the loss for the Fighting Saints in net.

Fisher will return to action on Wednesday, September 30, against Pine Manor College at 6:00 p.m. at Hormel Stadium in Medford, Massachusetts. The women's team will play Pine Manor College before the men at 4:00 p.m.
