Falcon Men End in Tie After Double Overtime

Falcon Men End in Tie After Double Overtime

Medford, Mass. – In spite of two overtime periods, neither the Fisher College men's soccer team nor visiting Pine Manor College forced a goal Wednesday evening.

After 110 minutes of regulation and overtime play, the match ended in a scoreless tie.

Although the game was undecided, the Falcons overpowered the Gators on the field.

In the first half, Gabriel Marquez (Caracas, Venezuela) led the offense with three shots of Fisher's nine first-half shots.

Pine Manor got three shots off from three different players, but Fisher goalkeeper Eliseau DiPena (Boston, Mass.) didn't allow the ball to hit the back of the net.

Falcon junior midfielder Tom Pugliese (Saugus, Calif.) took a shot in the 41st minute, allowing junior midfielder Jordan Markovich (Saugus, Calif.) to try to score on the free kick.

Unfortunately his kick curved wide and the Falcons and Gators went to halftime scoreless.

Pine Manor came out of the gate hot as they took the first shot of the second half just over a minute in.  However, a yellow card issued to a Pine Manor player stalled the Gators' pace.

Fisher outshot the Gators in the second half 8-1, but again the clock expired before either team could net a ball.

Fisher remained dominant on offense in the first overtime, outshooting the Gators 4-1.

In the second overtime, the Falcons again led in total shots 2-1. But neither team was able to get on the board as time expired.

With the no-decision, Fisher moves to 4-3-2 on the season. Pine Manor moves to 7-2-1.

Fisher College will return to action Sunday, Oct. 4 as they travel to Brooklyn, N.Y. to take on The King's College at 2 p.m.  Pine Manor will travel to Quincy, Mass. to take on Eastern Nazarene on Oct. 5 at 3:30 p.m.
