UMFK Knocks Fisher 8-1

Medford, Mass. – In spite of a strong early start, the Fisher College (5-4-2) men's soccer team fell to the University of Maine- Fort Kent (12-2) Thursday night by a score of 8-1.

With the victory, the Bengals sweep the two-game season series with the Falcons 2-0.

The match started strong with both teams trading offensive possessions. But just after the 10th minute, Bengal forward Ben Kluvers (Vernon Hills, Ill.) opened scoring.  Three short minutes later, Ross Downie (Edinburgh, Scotland) netted a pass from Kluvers to increase the UMFK lead to 2-0.

UMFK would score 4 unanswered goals in the first half, with nets by Kluvers, Downie, and Willie Monthe (Montreal, Quebec).

Monthe also opened scoring after the break, taking advantage of a Falcon mishap on a cross from Kalusha Kotes (Montego Bay, Jamaica) to advance the UMFK to 5-0.

Fisher broke the ice on a corner kick in the 55th minute by Robert Milne (Lenox, Mass.) that was headed into the lower left corner of the net by Jordan Markovich (Saugus, Calif.) to cut the deficit to 5-1.

Milton Christopher (St. Elizabeth, Jamaica), Kyle Robin (Glasgow, Scotland), and Monthe extended the Bengal lead icing the game at its final 8-1 score.

Despite five saves, Fisher keeper Eliseau DiPena (Boston, Mass.) took the loss in net for the Falcons.  Butch Forbes (St. Elizabeth, Jamica) earned the win for UMFK with two saves before switching goalies.
