Falcons dominate the nest over Owls of UMPI

Medford, Massachusetts—The Fisher College men's soccer team put together a complete game, dominating the University of Maine-Presque Isle (UMPI) 6-1 on Saturday.

With the victory, the Falcons move to 8-4-3 on the season, while the Owls fall to 2-12-1.

Despite an active early attack by the Falcons, it wasn't until the 36th minute of the contest that they finally broke the ice.

Junior midfielder Jordan Markovich (Saugus, California) drew first blood on a pass from Tyler Gahara (Hooksett, New Hampshire).

Led by Markovich, the Falcons continued the pressure throughout the end of the first half, with Falcon freshman Junior DiPena (Boston) finding a crack in the defense to extend the lead to 2-0.

After the break, the Owls responded pressuring the Falcon defense. Fisher held out until a foul in the box forced a score on an Owl penalty kick that cut the lead to 2-1.

But the Falcon offense answered the call seconds later when Robert Mline (Lenox, Massachusetts) powered a shot past the Owl keeper to regain the two-goal lead.

The Falcons never looked back.

Between the 57th and 60th minutes, Gahara cut through the Owl defense, scoring twice and pushing the lead to 5-1.

Later in the 65th minute, Gahara earned a penalty kick on an Owl foul. Senior midfielder Gary Maldanado made good on the opportunity, blasting the ball past the UMPI keeper to ice the game at 6-1.

Although the Falcons continued to press the Owl defense, they were unable to force another goal before time expired.

Freshman goalie Eliseu DiPena (Boston) notched two saves and allowed just one goal in the win.

Fisher will return to action Sunday, Oct. 18 at 3 p.m. when they travel to Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts to take on the Gators of Pine Manor.
