Men’s Soccer Drops Home Opener 3-1

Medford, Mass. – The Fisher College men's soccer team fell 3-1 in their season and home opener as they hosted Berkeley College of New York.  The Falcons are now 0-1 on the season while Berkeley pushes to 1-0.

The scoreless first half was a tight battle between both teams with Fisher barely outshooting the Knights 9-8.  Both goalies made three saves a piece in the half, neither allowing a goal.

The pace changed 1:22 into the second half as a Falcon was fouled in the box earning the team a penalty kick.  Gabriel Marquez took the shot for the Falcons placing it in the back of the net to put Fisher up 1-0 over the Knights.

Ten minutes later, Fisher was handed a red card forcing them to drop down to 10 players on the field.  Although they played a man down because of the penalty, the Falcons fought hard and kept the Knights from scoring for 30 minutes.

In the 82nd minutes, Omario Rosen pushed one by freshman goaltender Filipe Barandiaran to knot the game 1-1.  Minutes later Jovani Guzman lasered one by Barandiaran to take a 2-1 lead over the Falcons.  Meshema Charles scored the last goal of the game in the 88th minute giving the Knights a 3-1 lead with time expiring.

Barandiaran took his first loss in the net for the Falcons making 11 saves with 14 shots on goal.  Ronnie Roman earned the victory making seven saves with eight shots on goal.

The Falcons look to rebuttle as they head to Thomas College (ME) in Waterville, Maine on Sunday, September 3.  First touch will take place at 3:00 p.m.
