Falcons Shutout by Thomas 7-0

WATERVILLE, Maine – The Thomas College men's soccer team shutout Fisher (Mass.) College, 7-0, on Sunday afternoon at Smith Field.

In the victory, the Terriers improve to 2-0 on the year, while the Falcons remain winless at 0-2 in the early season.

Leading scorer Adam LaBrie (Yarmouth, Maine) got the Terriers on the board in the 8th minute as he scored on a crossing pass from Josh Emard (Lebanon, Maine).  Thomas continued the offensive pressure throughout the half as Falcon keeper Christopher Garcia kept his team in the game coming up with big saves.

Thomas added another goal just before the break as DJ Nicholas (Portland, Maine) sent in Emard on a through ball.  Emard's shot to the left side deflected off the hands of a diving Garcia and inside the post for a 2-0 lead.

The Terriers' offense took over in the second half as they ignited for five more goals.  MacQuille Walker (Hamilton Parish, Bermuda) netted the first goal of the half as he tapped in a header pass from Jack Gallagher (Camden, Maine).  Just over a minute later Nicholas added a goal of his own as he stepped passed the Falcons' defense for his first of the season.

In the 66th minute, Zenawi Bowen (St. George, Bermuda) scored his first collegiate goal on a free kick from 35 yards out.  Gallagher headed his second goal of the season in the 86th minute while Connor Porusta (Moultonborough, N.H.) also netted his first collegiate goal to end the scoring at 7-0.

Junior Jonathan Dutka (Durham, N.H.) earned the victory in goal for Thomas, making three saves before being relieved in the 71st minute by freshman John Villanueva (Gray, Maine) who made two saves.  Garcia turned aside seven shots in the effort.  Thomas outshot Fisher 26-7 throughout the contest.

The Falcons will return to action on Sunday, September 10 when they travel to Boston Common foe Emerson College at 4:00 p.m.
