Owls Defend Nest Against Falcons; 1-0

PRESQUE ISLE, ME – A first half goal would hold up as the UMPI Men's Soccer team (1-4) would get their first win of the season in a physical matchup against the Fisher Falcons (0-4).  Fisher would not be able to take advantage of their opportunities to score and the Owls would take a 1-0 victory at home.

UMPI would play a fast-paced very physical affair, and neither team would get the advantage early.  The Owls would get their goal late in the first half.  With just over three minutes remaining, Ansumana Morrow (FR, Presque Isle, ME) would flip a pass up ahead to Sean Barbosa (SR, Caribou, ME) who would control the ball and fire a shot into the back of the net.

The second half would continue in much the same fashion.  Both teams would miss on great opportunities to score, while both defenses stepped up on multiple occasions.  UMPI keeper Matt Manter (SR, Caribou, ME) was tested on several occasions, but stood firm and was credited with five saves in the game.  The 1-0 win was the first of the season for the Owls, while the Falcons are still looking for their first win of the season.
