Men's Soccer Overcomes A Tough Loss Saturday To Earn A Tie In The Battle Of The Birds

Presque Isle, Maine- The men's soccer team headed up to Maine this weekend to face Fort Kent and Presque Isle, respectively.  The Falcons could not get anything going offensively on Saturday against the Bengals and took the loss, 6-0. Looking to regroup from Saturday's loss, the Falcons (1-5-1) got set for
kickoff against the University of Maine-Presque Isle (4-6-1), a team they had beaten prior this season, 3-1.

The match was a constant battle of possession for both teams as each team had numerous scoring opportunities. The Falcons had a total of nine shots and the Owls had three in the first half but the game still remained scoreless. Fisher drew first blood in the second half of the match, when Rolando Pinero (Cape Coral,FL) scored off of a pass from Diamond Williams (Champaign, IL) in the 55th minute. The Owls wouldn't let this lead last for long, as Stephen Cochrane (Deer Isle, ME) netted the equalizer after receiving a pass from Paul Kaplan (Embden, ME) at the 73rd minute to knot the teams at 1-1 which is how it would end at regulation. Heading into overtime with the score tied at 1-1 both teams looked for golden goal but came up short. The Owls had the only shot in the first overtime but it was denied by Falcons keeper Christopher Garcia (Rowland Heights, CA). The match went into double overtime but the two scoring opportunities the Falcons had were saved by Owls keeper Caleb Thompson (Washburn, ME). After 90 minutes of regulation and two overtimes the match ended in a draw 1-1.

The Falcons look to host Green Mountain College on Wednesday afternoon with kickoff at 5pm after the women's game.
